Louisville QB Lamar Jackson wins Heisman Trophy

Louisville sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson has won the 82nd annual Heisman Trophy, becoming the youngest player to win the honor.

Jackson, an early favorite, beat out Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, Michigan's do-it-all star Jabrill Peppers, and Oklahoma's wide receiver and quarterback duo, Dede Westbrook and Baker Mayfield.

Jackson got 2,144 points. Second-place finisher Watson had 1,524. Mayfield was third, Westbrook fourth and Peppers fifth.

Jackson, who won the Maxwell Award earlier this week _ given to the best college football player in the nation _ was responsible for 51 touchdowns, an ACC record.

Jackson inched out Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston as the youngest recipient. Winston was also 19 when he won the Heisman in 2013, but Jackson was born Jan. 7, and Winston was born Jan. 6.

Jackson passed for 3,390 yards, 30 touchdowns and added another 1,538 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground.

He's the first Division I football player to have both 1,500 rushing yards and 3,300 passing yards in a single season.
