Louise Redknapp praises her kids for being 'by her side' during making of 'tough' new album

Louise Redknapp said her sons had a “massive say” on her latest album, to support her and provide a critical voice.

The singer praised Charley, 15, and Beau, 10, for being “by her side” while making her album about the “tough” breakdown of her marriage — but admitted they were “brutally honest” about every track.

The 44-year-old singer divorced footballer Jamie Redknapp in 2017 after 19 years of marriage.

She is releasing Heavy Love in the new year — almost two decades after her last work Elbow Beach.

Speaking to Standard Online, the star, who found fame in 1992 with the girl group Eternal, said of her children: “They had a massive say in the process of this album. I wrote for 18 months.

“They used to listen to every song — good and bad. They were brutally honest.

“I never wrote anything that we hadn’t discussed. I am very open with my children.”

The singer, speaking at a preview gig of the album held at London’s White City House, added: “The oldest one told me, ‘Mum, I am proud of you.’ My boys hadn’t heard me sing [when she first started in music].

“Once I had them, I didn’t go back to work. Doing it with them by my side is lovely.”

Redknapp has told how her boys felt embarrassed at her racy video for single Stretch, especially when Charley caught fellow pupils watching it: “He said, ‘Mum I had to turn the computers off as there was someone watching your video on all of them.’”

The singer admitted she was “nervous” about releasing the “personal” album, adding: “There are songs that people are going to read in to.

“On some of them, they will be right and on others they won’t be … I have got very hard skin over the past couple of years. It takes a lot to offend me now.”
