Louis Walsh breaks silence on The X Factor axe as he says 'it might come back'

Louis Walsh has broken his silence on The X Factor being axed.

The Irish music manager has been part of the furniture since the show began in 2004 as one of the main judges throughout the years.

And despite being the launching pad for a number of top-selling acts in the last two decades from One Direction to Little Mix, the show has been axed after 17 years, with Simon Cowell pulling the plug on the ITV show.

Commenting on the ending, Louis said: “We had a really great time, but it was just time to rest it.

“It might come back in a few years, but I had a great time.”

“I don’t think there’ll ever be another show like it,” he added, speaking to Extra.ie .

X Factor will not air this year (ITV)

“You have all the copycat shows now, there’s one on every channel and nobody cares.”

And recalling the winning element of the show, which secured around 20 million viewers at the peak of its popularity, he added:

“Everyone thought that we knew the votes, what categories we were going to get, who was going to be in the bottom two, but we never knew, ever. That’s what made it real.”

The Mayo native went on to reveal some of his favourites from the show and confessed his all time favourite audition was Dawn the Jockey from series four.

“Dawn the Jockey is my favourite one ever,” he said.
