Louis Theroux to launch his first podcast to keep you entertained during the lockdown

Documentary maker Louis Theroux, and all-round king of the internet, is entering the podcast space for the first time this month with the new series, Grounded with Louis Theroux.

Commissioned by BBC Radio 4, and available via the BBC Sounds app, the new series will see Theroux speak to high-profile people he hasn’t had a chance to interview before.

The first episode, which will be available next Monday, April 27, features an hour-long chat with the writer and fellow documentary maker Jon Ronson. The episode will see the two discuss their professional rivalry and how Ronson is dealing with the lockdown. If you haven’t listened to Ronson’s excellent podcasts investigating the porn industry, The Butterfly Effect and The Last Days of August, then now is a time to start.

Other upcoming guests on the show include Lenny Henry, Boy George and Miriam Margoyles.

Speaking about the launch of the new show, Theroux said: “I’ve really loved doing these interviews. It’s been a chance to speak to people I admire and have in-depth conversations with them about their lives, their careers, and their most intimate feelings.

"Making a podcast and radio series is very different to my usual way of working. And for that reason, I’ve found it very fun and refreshing."

Each episode will be available to listen to firstly via the BBC Sounds app every Monday, before being broadcast on Radio 4 the following week. Given Theroux is such a big hit in the longform documentary world, it is surprising that it’s taken him this long to have his own podcast. “We couldn’t be happier to welcome him to Radio 4,” said Rhian Roberts, the commissioning editor for digital and podcasts. “It feels like such a treat in these times to settle down with a podcast full of warmth and mischief - and a lot of insight. Louis is such great company, as always.”
