Louis Theroux has spoken candidly about the 'dark fear' that keeps him going, though has admitted he is at a crossroads in his life.
The 49-year-old TV documentary maker indicated that he may not return to the small screen again as he looks at a new path for his investigations.
Speaking on BLANK podcast with comedian Jim Daly and author Giles Paley-Phillips, Louis hinted that his time making series for TV could be behind him, as he looks towards filmmaking or even books for his creative outlet.

Opening up on the podcast, Louis said: "Funnily enough, I think at the moment I’m at a place where I might be at one of those junctions, you know, where I perhaps need to... have a feeling of it might be time to change somehow."
Musing about where he could go in the future, Louis said that it is sometimes difficult to keep finding the next project, especially after completing his ambitions in TV and film.

Louis continued: "I haven’t really got much further but for a while I thought let’s do a film, so we did the Scientology movie.
"Now it's do a two-part or three parter, little inflections in approach which kind of kept things fresh and I think I might be at that point now where I need to change, and take stock.
"You take stock and figure out a slightly different and I guess doing the book is something else."

This is an idea that has helped Louis keep ahead of his 'dark fear' that he has nothing left to give.
He concluded: "The book has kept me kind of ticking over as I think for me blankness is a condition of life, it’s a sort of ever-present threat and an adversary that kind of keeps me on my toes."
Louis recently used a BAFTA TV Awards speech to urge viewers watching the ceremony to turn over to watch his documentary, which was starting on another channel.

His new show, Mothers on the Edge, was beginning on BBC Two as he headed on stage to present the award for Specialist Factual.
Louis looked at his watch before making a confession: "I don’t know if it’s a bit weird to mention this, but round about now on BBC Two I’ve got a documentary starting.
“So if you’re at home and, you know, a bit bored, you just wanna see what else is on. It’s called Mothers on the Edge.”
