Louis Theroux admits strange fact about his 25-year history on camera

Louis Theroux has revealed a strange fact about his career making documentaries all around the world.

Speaking to Lorraine on ITV on Wednesday, the veteran programme maker revealed there is one thing that you'll likely spot in almost every TV show he has made.

As Lorraine spoke to him about his podcast he has been recording during lockdown, she said: "I tell you what, one revelation was absolutely shocking.

"It was the revelation that you wear the same shirt at some point every single time you are on camera.

"At some point, that shirt will appear.

"And it's an eagle-eyed viewer that spotted it."

Responding to it, Louis revealed it hadn't been in every show, but he had it for about 20 years.

"There is truth in that," he said. "It's not like I wear it in every - it's not like a talismanic shirt that I wear in every single programme, but it is a shirt I acquired. In many, many programme for about twenty years I did wear it."

Revealing why he wore it for so long, he said: "It's very quiet. I know that sounds weird."

"How can a shirt be noisy? It doesn't rustle, sound recordists have told me. It also never crumples. It's kind of made with some miracle fabric, probably not naturally occurring.

"I also like the style of it. I was going to wear it today for this interview, but then I forgot to. It's got nice shiny buttons.

"I've still got it upstairs. Next time I'm on, Lorraine, I'll wear the brown shirt, and you'll be amazed!"

In the interview, he also spoke about being the first documentary maker to speak to Joe Exotic, of Tiger King fame. He made a programme called "America's most dangerous pets" - and he spent around a week with Joe Exotic during production.

"I was almost slightly embarrassed that I didn't make more of it at the time.

"Even then he would talk a lot about Carole Baskin. Like he had a big beef with Carole Baskin. He would rant about her.

"He hadn't gone full Tiger King, he wasn't quite wearing the tassels. He wasn't singing country and western.

"I got there first, but I didn't become a viral sensation."

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
