Louis Saha explains why Alexis Sanchez loan exit is bad for Manchester United

Louis Saha has described Alexis Sanchez's loan move to Inter as a 'bad deal' for Manchester United as they are still paying a large percentage of his wages.

Sanchez only arrived in Manchester a year and eight months ago in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan join Arsenal, but the deal did not work out for either player.

The Chilean especially had a tough time at Old Trafford, only managing to score five goals and make nine assists in 45 appearances.

His lack of form meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deemed him surplus to requirements at United, despite the lack of options in attack, and he has joined Inter on loan for the season.

Yet United are still paying a significant proportion of his massive wages and as a result club great Saha believes United have got the short end of the stick.

“It’s a strange one, I think Alexis got to a point where his confidence dropped," the Frenchman told Stadium Astro.

“The terms of the agreement show he needed to move. He’s a great player with an abundance of skills and passion. But he couldn’t deliver for United, so having a deal where United pays is a bad deal."

Saha also believes that Sanchez could have stayed at the club and helped out this season.

Following the departures of Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, who has also joined Inter, United have been left light on attacking options, with just Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as strikers.

If serious injuries befall any of them United could be in trouble and in a situation in which they may wish Sanchez was still around.

“You would think he could remain there and help the side but mentally it was too exhausting,” Saha added.

"That’s why he wanted to move – he didn’t feel appreciated.  It was really hard for him. The decision is not sustainable.”

Sanchez was an unused substitute in his first game at Inter as they defeated Cagliari 2-1 in a game which saw Lukaku suffer racist abuse from the opposition fans before scoring the winning penalty.
