Louis Rees-Zammit try video footage leaves Sam Warburton, Wayne Pivac and fans in awe

Former stars have been blown away by Louis Rees-Zammit’s wonder try during Wales’ 38-23 victory over Fiji at the Principality Stadium.

The Gloucester winger’s score came at a crucial point with the home side clinging on to a narrow 24-23 lead seven minutes from time.

Receiving a long pass from Nick Tompkins out on the left inside his own ten metre line, Rees-Zammit kicked ahead and then showed his stunning speed.

Despite having yards and yards to make up on the covering Fijian defenders, he simply ate up the ground to win the race and touch down ahead of Ben Volavola.

Commentating on Amazon Prime Video, former Wales centre Tom Shanklin said: “Look at him go! That’s absolutely incredible pace.

“He comes from 20, 30 metres behind, he never gives up.”

Then fellow Amazon pundit Sam Warburton delivered his verdict.

“That was a fantastic individual moment of brilliance,” said the former Wales and Lions skipper.

"It's just a world class finish all over.

“His kick, his pace, you can’t coach that.

“What you want to do with Louis is give him the ball early and in space. That finally happened for his try.

“It was great weight on the kick. To put in a delicate kick like he did at full pace, it is so underestimated how hard a skill that is.

“Josua Tuisova tried to run his line, but Louis just completely gassed him.

"What he has is pace that separates him from most other wingers in world rugby.

“There is gas and then there is gas."

Rees-Zammit had an earlier try disallowed and there were repeated checks of the replays after his solo effort, but in the end the officials were happy with his grounding and the score stood.

Giving his thoughts, Wales coach Wayne Pivac said: “That’s what he can do. You can’t coach that. That’s just express pace. I was just pleased for him because he was marked fairly heavily on the left wing.

"But I was really pleased he showed that individual brilliance and raw pace. It’s great to have him in your side when he can do those sorts of things.”
