Louis Rees-Zammit's second-row teammate scores 'spectacular' Superman-style try fit for a world-class winger

Gloucester second row Freddie Clarke produced a breath-taking superman-style finish in the Champions Cup round of 16.

Finishing in the corner under pressure is a skill usually reserved for speedy wingers, but Clarke has shown that even the forwards can do it with his remarkable feat of acrobatics last weekend when Gloucester took on La Rochelle.

Louis Rees-Zammit kept a promising move alive by offloading back into play before being bundled into touch. The ball was sprayed towards the right flank through Billy Twelvetrees and Seb Atkinson. The latter launched a looping pass to the furthest man wide: Clarke.

The 6ft 5in lock dived for the corner in spectacular fashion, dotting down while completely airborne in a finish reminiscent of a world-class wing. The commentary team were awe-struck by Clarke's ingenuity and flair.

"Freddie Clarke! Has he scored a more spectacular try?" exclaimed Nick Mullins.

Co-commentator and former Scotland international Johnnie Beattie said: "What a finish by the big man! It is absolutely perfect. Freddie Clarke in the corner, it should be 14 on his back, not 4! That is beautiful."

Rugby fans have been loving the audacious finish.

"What a finish for any player but a second row WOW" said one.

"Hang it in The Shed! The Louvre doesn’t deserve this… What a finish!" said another.

Gloucester went on to narrowly lose out 29-26. La Rochelle will face Saracens next Sunday night in the quarter-finals after the London outfit defeated Ospreys at the weekend.
