Louis CK is under fire for making a Holocaust joke to an Israeli audience during a stand-up show in Tel Aviv.
The disgraced comedian told the crowd: “I’d rather be in Auschwitz than New York City,” before adding: “I mean now, not when it was open.”
CK, whose grandfather was Jewish, made the remark during a Thanksgiving set on Thursday (28 November).
The comment is said to have caused “startled laughter” among the subdued audience members.
Last week, a group of women gathered outside the building where CK was due to perform to protest his appearance following the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him in 2017.
The international tour is his first since he admitted to exposing himself and masturbating in front of women.
Referencing the scandal during his Tel Aviv show, he said: “If they say ‘yes,’ then still don’t do it, because it’s not popular.”
CK staged a comeback a little over a year since the claims came to light.
In October 2018, he returned to the New York comedy circuit by performing a surprise set at the city’s Comedy Cellar, which prompted some women to walk out.
