Louie's Liqour Store is challenging you to eat pigs in blankets injected with super hot sauce

A Newcastle bar has set up a fiery festive feasting challenge which could turn your face as red as Rudolph's nose.

Louie's Liqour Store, a new Southern USA-style dive bar in Nelson Street, is laying down the gauntlet with its pigs in blankets challenge.

No, the idea is not to eat as many pigs in blankets as possible. Anyone can do that. Instead, groups can opt to order a plate of the bacon-wrapped sausages and have them INJECTED with 'da bomb', a mouth-blowing chili sauce made from habanero peppers and chipotle pepper puree.  Other flavours include 'unholy BBQ', 'devil wing', 'triple 6' and 'Hot AF'.

Each sausage costs £1.50 and customers can choose to have some, all or none of the pigs filled with the molten mix.

James Douglas, of Louie’s Liquor Store, believes the new dish will be very popular.

"When we thought about adding a festive dish, we knew it had to be something that people hadn’t tried before and so the fiery pigs in blankets were born,” said James.

"We have a whole host of flavours to choose from, with varying levels of heat, but the real star of the show is Da Bomb.

"It’s the perfect Christmas treat for anyone who loves a challenge and we can’t wait to see how people react when they try it."

Louie's Liqour Store's regular menu is full of American classics, including bacon cheese burgers, a Cajun catfish burger, ribs, hot dogs and fries.

The bar, found downstairs in Reds True BBQ and opposite Billy Bootleggers, is open from 12 to late, seven days a week.
