Louie Rankin dead: Belly actor dies in horror car smash 'involving a transport truck'

Louie Rankin has died after he was involved in a car smash.

The Grammy-award winning star was in a car accident in Ontario, Canada on Monday.

A transport truck and another vehicle were said to be involved in the wreckage, according to TMZ.

More details still are yet to come out about the collision, according to the gossip site.

News of his death was confirmed in a statement on his Twitter page.

The statement read: "It saddens us to have to announce that The “ORIGINAL DON DADA” “Trail Blazer” the legend – Louie Ox Rankin passed away this morning.

"May God keep his soul with his father, sister and neice in #heaven #amen #sipox."

Louie was best known for his role as drug lord Ox in 1998 crime drama Belly when he starred with fellow actors Nas and DMX.

In 2016, he was reunited with his co-star Nas when they played a part in DJ Khaleds music video for his track Nas Album Done.

The actor made a mark on the movie industry with his roles in 2002 film Shottas and 2014 flick We Run The Streets.

Louie often referred to himself as the "Original Don Dada" in the lyrics of his songs.

His biggest 1992 hit Typewriter scooped a Grammy Award.

The singer was born and raised in Jamica.
