Loughgall are in a happy place right now, says leading scorer Nathaniel Ferris

Loughgall are top of the Championship and Nathaniel Ferris – the league’s leading scorer – has explained: “We are playing with smiles on our faces.”

Ferris netted his 11th league goal of the campaign in Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Dundela – the eighth win in 12 league outings for Dean Smith’s men.

“Every match we are going into feels like we are going to win – we are playing with smiles on our faces,” Ferris explained to Match On Tuesday.

“It’s a really brilliant feeling and right now we have absolute nothing to complain about – we are a really tight-knit unit who fight for each other every week.

“Dundela don’t lose many games at home but we are so confident in our own ability right now, so pulling off a 3-1 win is a great result but right now that is the expectation.

“We are going into every game with confidence. every time we attack we feel like we are going to score and every time I get a chance, I feel like I’m going to put it away.

“There is such a good harmony here within the squad, the team and the coaches, very simply it's that spirit and togetherness that is winning us games.

"We have won every away game we have had this season and it probably is going under the radar – people like to see or read about the big clubs doing well, but Loughgall have gone a little under-reported.

“But that only spurs us on more every single week and we will keep doing what we are doing.”

The 20-year-old explained that whilst he had targets in his head for goals figures this campaign, his current hot run of form means that all he is concerned with now is continuing the streak of wins and goals.

"The main thing in my head is to keep going the way I am and maintain my form, because if I do that then I’ll score 30 goals in the season,” he continued.

“All I can focus on right now is to take the chances as they come and to keep up my own level of performance in terms of how I help the team.

“A goal a game is obviously fantastic but it’s more important that those goals are also winning points."
