Lough Neagh Rescue volunteers help nurses reach sick patients in snow

Volunteers for Lough Neagh Rescue gave up their New Year's Eve to help bring nurses to sick patients in the snow.

A spokesperson for the service said this was in a bid to give back to the local community, who are always so kind in the donations they make.

The service, which has stations in Antrim, Ardboe and Kinnego, has also been busy over the holidays helping in numerous search and rescue missions.

A Lough Neagh Rescue spokesman said: "We are always so thankful to get donations from our local community we thought this was a great way to give back and help people in need by providing travel assistance in the snow to the local medical centre.

He added this was "so they could travel to seriously ill patients that needed injections and urgent bloods".

A spokesperson for the Northern Trust thanked the volunteers.

They said: "Big thank you to our colleagues in Lough Neagh Search and Rescue who helped our District Nurses in Cookstown to navigate the heavy snowfall using their 4x4.

"Their assistance meant patients needing injections and urgent bloods were still able to get them - thank you!"
