Loud house parties and kids screaming trigger neighbour complaints every 80 seconds

Complaints about neighbours arguing and having house parties are triggering a deluge of complaints

According to a study, noisy neighbour complaints are being made to local councils every 80 seconds.

Complaints range from people having parties, DIY noise and children screaming, MirrorOnline has reported.

About 424,000 calls were made to local councils about the issue last year.

Only 45 of those resulted in any action being taken though.

Topping the list was loud house parties.

Other reoccurring complaints included screaming children, barking dogs and DIY noise.

Arguments and footsteps on wooden stairs were others.

There were 10 complaints made about cockerels crowing at dawn.

The most complaints were made in London. This was followed by Scotland and the South East.

Half of people in Britain said noise coming from neighbours has had a detrimental affect on their general wellbeing, according to the study by insurer Churchill.

The group’s Pritpal Powar said: “Noise from other people can be extremely debilitating and disruptive to our daily lives.”

The news comes as a mum in Edinburgh said she was "extremely upset" after a neighbour wrote to her threatening to report her 16-month-old son to their landlord for "non-stop stomping".
