A series of explosions were heard late Saturday in al-Mezzeh airbase near Damascus with smoke and fire reported rising.
A war monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, attributed the blasts to Israeli strikes, and said they led to deaths and injuries, Reuters reported.
However, regime media quoted a military source as saying that the strikes heard from the direction of the military airbase were caused by an explosion at a munitions dump due to an electrical problem, not by Israeli strikes.
"Mezzeh airbase has not been exposed to any Israeli aggression," the source said.
