'Loud blasts' and 'screaming' as bomb scare at house leaves teenage girl in hospital

A teenage girl has been left injured in hospital after loud blasts were heard following a bomb scare outside a home in Birmingham.

Residents were evacuated as police, ambulance and Army bomb disposal teams rushed to Coronation Road in Tipton early on Wednesday morning, June 24.

Locals near the property said they heard screaming and 'loud blasts' during the incident, which left three people injured.

The Explosives Ordnance Division confirmed they found 'explosive devices' when they arrived at the scene just after midnight.

The girl is being treated in Birmingham Children's Hospital and a man and a woman were examined at the scene with minor injuries.

One person told BirminghamLive: "I heard what sounded like fireworks and then screaming so I came outside.

"There were two blasts and it was loud. I saw smoke after it happened."

West Midlands Police said: "We have cordoned off and evacuated an area of Coronation Road in Tipton this morning after explosive devices were discovered outside a property just after midnight.

"A teenage girl from the property who was outside at the time, was taken to hospital with superficial injuries; no-one else was hurt."

"The Explosives Ordnance Division (EOD) were at the scene and forensic experts are examining the area.

"We are in the early stages of this inquiry and detectives are asking anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch on 101."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they were called at 0.06am, sending a doctor, paramedics and other specialist resources to the scene.

She added: "We treated a teenage girl for injuries not believed to be serious before taking her to Birmingham Children's Hospital for further treatment.

"A man and woman were also treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene."
