Loud bangs in Beeston as gangs fight and armed police descend on area and tape off street

Police are investigating after a number of loud bangs were heard during a fracas between a group of young men in Beeston on Saturday night.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 10.25pm on Saturday police were called to reports of an altercation involving a group of males in the vicinity of Trentham Street, Beeston, with a number of loud bangs heard.

"Armed officers were deployed and searched the area but no suspects were identified and no evidence of a firearm's discharge was found.

"Shortly before 9am on Sunday, a member of the public reported finding two blank firing casings in Back Stratford Street.

"A scene was put in place to undergo forensic examination and specialist searches.

"Detectives from Leeds District CID are continuing enquiries into the incident and anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact officers via 101 quoting crime reference 13210414271 or online via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat."
