Loud bangs heard as reports of shooting at north Manchester takeaway

Detectives are investigating following reports of a shooting at a takeaway in north Manchester last night (Saturday).

Neighbours reported hearing loud bangs following the incident on Lansdowne Road in Crumpsall.

Police rushed to the scene at around 9.20pm to reports of a firearms discharge, a GMP spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman could not confirm whether the shooting happened inside or outside the premises that they were called to.

No one was injured and no arrests have been made, the spokeswoman said.

A woman who lives nearby, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I heard possibly two or three loud bangs.

"I thought it was someone letting off fireworks in the park opposite the cafe.

Officers were pictured combing the area for clues (supplied)

"A few of us thought we heard fireworks but it's so common round here with fireworks."

The resident said the incident was unsettling for those living in the area.

"It is a worry because many of the residents would like to see more of a police presence around here," she added.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened, a police spokeswoman said.

Photos from the scene on Sunday morning showed an area cordoned off, with a row of cones placed along the road.

Police were pictured in a line within the cordon, combing the ground for evidence.

They were also pictured searching the ground immediately outside the takeaway.

A police car was photographed outside the taped off area while an officer stood guard.
