Loud bang and power cut concerns neighbours

People in one area of Merseyside were concerned after a loud bang and power cut.

The bang and brief dip in electricity was reported by some residents in the Wallasey area of Wirral at around 10pm on Tuesday.

One woman took to Facebook to try and find out what happened.

Karen Debbie, who lives on Lycett Road, wrote: “Anyone hear a loud noise and experience an electrical dip a few minutes ago in Wallasey village?”

The post attracted guesses from other locals. One man said it was like an "explosion".

He replied: "Yep. Like an explosion!"

One person said they also saw 'flashes' coming from a nearby demolition site on Leasowe Road were people suspected the loud noise came from.

She said: "Yes I heard it and light flickered."

While another local replied: “Yes we've heard two very loud noises/bangs. But by Central Park.”

A number of locals who live around Leasowe Road speculated it could be related to the demolition work taking place next to the petrol station, with some stating this isn’t the first time they have heard loud noises from the scene.

One person said: “Every time it rains since the demolition there are big lightning like flashes.

“I have reported it. Nothing has been done. I came in and saw the fire engine. I didn't call it in but I heard at least two explosions tonight so I reported it again to the fire brigade who were there.”

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they received concerns about a construction site in the area, however upon inspection, believed it to be a “false alarm”.

A spokesperson said: “One fire engine was sent to a construction site on Leasowe Road just after 10pm. However, there was no sign of fire and this was deemed to be a false alarm. Crews left the scene at 10.15pm.”
