Loud bang and flash of light thought to be 'explosion'

Several people have speculated that a loud bang and flash of light was caused by an "explosion", while others were left clueless as to what caused the incident.

The bang and flash were seen and heard on the outskirts of Southport near Scarisbrick at around 7.30pm on Tuesday September 7.

One woman took to Facebook to try and find out what happened.

She wrote: "Hi did anyone else hear a loud bang and flash of light near Morris Dancers?"

The post attracted guesses from other locals. One woman said it was like an "explosion".

She replied: "Yes I heard it sounded like an explosion of some sort but my husband downstairs never [heard it]. Glad I seen this thought I was going mad."

One person even said it shook their barn.

She said: "My dad said it shook the barns…it was quite an ‘explosion’."

Quite a few people thought it was fireworks, although no one saw them.

One woman said her dog went to hide when it happened.

She wrote: "Yes my dog who hates fireworks shot under the coffee table (she didn’t fit ). It was very loud."

Lancashire Police confirmed they had received no reports of the incident.
