Lotus Biscoff sausages launch at Co Derry butchers and customers can't get enough of them

A Co Derry butchers has done the unimaginable and created Lotus Biscoff sausages.

McAtamney's Butchers started selling the unique cinnamon and caramel flavour at their Limavady store.

The idea came from Brian Bruise, one of the butchers working at the branch.

His boss Nigel Steele said: "He's just a big fan."

And Nigel revealed that it is the Lotus Biscoff paste, spread and biscuits that go into making the sausages.

"It's not really overpowering, but it's quite tasty, it works well," the manager added.

Over 1,000 comments have expressed a range of views about the controversial flavour on social media.

"It's got quite a reaction on Facebook," Nigel said.

Despite reservation from some people online ("that's just wrong" one commented) it seems these sweetly-flavoured bangers are actually going down a treat.

Nigel said the sausages were made at 11am on Tuesday, July 21, and by 3pm they had sold out.

And the curiosity carried on the next day, with customers continuing to line up to sample them for themselves.

Lotus Biscoff biscuits have been around since the 1930s, but have become a baking craze on social media in recent years.

Despite this, it is not just younger people who are pigging out.

"Every age group are coming in for them," Nigel said.

Asked whether the butchers would consider mixing their meat with any other wild flavours, Nigel hinted: "We'll see how these got down and we'll probably do a couple of other things and see how they are."
