Lotto winner who scooped £1m prize splashed out on Dyson vacuum cleaner

A houseproud lottery winner who scooped £1million celebrated by splashing out on a brand new £578 vacuum cleaner.

Farm worker Terry Falgate, 48, decided not to upgrade his Peugeot 308 hatchback car or go on a luxury holiday after picking up his cash.

Instead he bought a top range Dyson V11 Absolute cordless cleaner for £499 from Currys - reduced in price from £599.

Mr Falgate who lives with his two daughters also spent an extra £79.99 on a five year care plan for his new machine

He made what he described as his "decadent" purchase after his six-year-old Vax cleaner broke down just days after his win.

Terry, who is an avid Norwich City fan, said: “Following the Canaries has always had highs and lows, but I think this might be the ultimate high.

"£1million is a great consolation prize and will make a huge difference to my life but more importantly, also for my two girls who I can now help to get on the property ladder when they are ready.”

Terry’s £1million adventure began the previous day when he was taking his dog, a golden Labrador called Harvey, for a walk and to pick up some burger buns for tea.

He bought four Lucky Dip tickets for Friday’s EuroMillions draw and out them in his wallet he thought no more about it until the following evening.

Terry has already made his first purchase (PA)

Terry said: “It’s a good job the girls fancied halloumi burgers for tea, otherwise I’d never have popped in and bought the winning ticket!

He is just the latest lucky Lottery ticket-holder to go public with their Lottery win .

Steve Thompson , 42, and wife Lenka, 41, were revealed as the winners of the ninth-biggest Euromillions jackpot last month.

So far, the family-of five, Selsey, West Sussex, have only allowed themselves a new second-hand car.

Steve said: “I am going to keep working, but whether it’s doing what I do now…

“I’ve got too much to think about with Christmas and family now. But of course I have got to finish the jobs I have got on.
