Lotto winner was counting cash when robber broke in and stole £11k

A Lottery syndicate organiser was attacked by two masked raiders who stole about £11,000 in cash from their victim as he counted the group's winning.

The victim kept large amounts of cash at his home after collecting it from punters.

The duo burst into his Cleethorpes home with a bat while he was counting out the cash from the syndicate's latest winnings in his bedroom.

The victim suffered serious injuries, including a head wound, broken ribs and a punctured lung, Grimsby Live reports.

Borge Bradwell, 40, Daniel Charnock, 38, both of Grimsby, admitted the aggravated burglary on July 4.

Their accomplice, lookout Gavin Dyball, 35, also of Grimsby , denied aggravated burglary and was cleared by a jury after a trial. He admitted burglary.

Philip Standfast, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Bradwell and Charnock went inside the house, but Dyball was "part of the plan".

The occupier ran a Lottery syndicate at work and Bradwell had previously been part of it.

"He had inside knowledge of what was going on," said Mr Standfast.

The syndicate organiser was "often in possession of significant amounts of cash, which he kept at home".

He was at home in the bedroom counting out syndicate cash when he heard the front door open. He thought it was his wife and went downstairs.

Bradwell and Charnock were wearing balaclavas and hats with the eyes showing. One of them was carrying a 2ft-long bat.

They repeatedly yelled: "Where's the f***ing money?"

The man lunged forward but was hit over the head with the bat and fell to the floor. He curled up but was kicked.

"The men were so persistent that he knew they weren't going to give up," said Mr Standfast.

"He told them the money was upstairs in the bedroom. One went upstairs. The other told him to lie on the floor.

"They demanded his phone and later left with the cash, estimated to be about £11,000, including some of his personal money.

The man suffered multiple injuries, including a head wound that needed stitches, broken ribs and a punctured lung.

"This had been a sustained and severe attack on a man in his own home," said Mr Standfast.

Dyball claimed that he did not know that the other two men had a weapon with them.

He was outside acting as the lookout but admitted receiving a small part of the cash stolen, the court heard.

All three men were returned into custody and face lengthy prison terms when they are sentenced.
