Lotto results Ireland: Explaining the €19 million jackpot cap after six months of no winners

The Lotto jackpot has been rolling over for six months now - if you can believe it - having not been won since the summer.

On Wednesday, September 29, the jackpot reached a new record of €19,060,800.

And it has been at that level ever since, meaning that a single winner of the jackpot would become Ireland's largest ever jackpot winner.

Under current rules, the jackpot cannot exceed €19,060,800, having risen from the previous cap of €18.96 million - however, the prizes beneath the jackpot can still be increased.

Lotto rules state that: "If in any Draw the Jackpot prize is not won and the Jackpot amount for that Draw does not exceed the “current Jackpot prize cap” then an amount of 46.16% of the Prize Fund for the next Draw will be added to the Lotto Jackpot Prize Pool for the next Draw.

"If in any Draw the Jackpot prize is not won and the Jackpot amount for that Draw does exceed the “current Jackpot prize cap” then no amount will be added to the Lotto Jackpot Prize Pool for the next or subsequent draws until that Lotto Jackpot has been won.

"An amount of 46.16% of the Prize Fund for the next Draw will be added to the next lower prize tier at which there is at least one winner for that Draw."
