Lotto Ireland: Monaghan newsagent sells €1 million prize ticket as search continues for winner

It was a good day in Carrickmacross today as a local, family-run, newsagent was confirmed to be the ticket sale point for Saturday night’s Lotto Plus 1 prize of €1,000,000.

The winning Quick Pick ticket was sold on the day of the draw, September 4, at Birdys Newsagents on the Main Street in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

Colm Birdy, the Store Manager, was delighted to hear the good news from the weekend and said; “What a time for a win!

"With the Lotto jackpot rolling for a good few weeks now, it’s great to hear that one of our customers has come into a nice bit of luck and won themselves €1,000,000.

“Back in 2013, we sold a winning Lotto Plus 2 ticket worth €250,000 and there was a great buzz around the town after that.

“Our customers were all coming in for the craic and banter when the news got out and to check their tickets over the few days after the draw. I’m sure as news gets out about this win that it’ll be the same again.

“We have lots of local customers from the area so it would be lovely if it was someone from the town who has won.

“Our family-run store is coming up to its 100-year anniversary after our family took over in 1928 so it’s great to see a Lotto win, and hopefully another few, before then too.”

The National Lottery are now urging Lotto players in Monaghan to check their tickets carefully as Ireland’s newest millionaire has yet to come forward.

The winning ticket holder is advised to sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place.

They should contact the prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or claims@lottery.ie and arrangements will be made for them to claim their prize.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s Lotto jackpot is set to become the highest one to feature in the game in over 10 years.

As there was no winner of the €13,612,936 jackpot on Saturday night, Wednesday’s will now roll to an estimated €14 million.

The excitement is now building all over the country as the winner of the life-changing amount could become the 8th highest Lotto jackpot winner since the game was launched in 1988.

The last time that a jackpot of a similar amount was in March 2011 when two players from Cavan and Cork shared a jackpot of €14,037,236.
