Tonight’s Lotto jackpot prize could reach the highest amount ever seen in the game’s history after almost four months of rollovers.
The excitement continues to grow for Lotto players across the country as tonight’s win heads towards an estimated €19 million - which could become the highest amount ever seen in the game.
If the Lotto jackpot exceeds the current cap which is set at €18.96 million, no more money will be added to the jackpot prize until it is won.
The sum that would normally go to the jackpot will instead be distributed to the next lower prize tier at which there are winners.
If the jackpot is won at an amount higher than €18.96 million, that amount will become the game’s new jackpot cap.
A National Lottery spokesperson said: “Tonight’s Lotto jackpot is set to hit an estimated €19 million which could prove to be an historic milestone in the game.
“The Lotto jackpot is currently capped at €18.96 million and this represents the record-breaking Lotto jackpot win by the Dan Morrissey syndicate in Carlow in June 2008, which was the largest amount ever seen in Lotto.
“Once the jackpot exceeds the cap, no more money will be added to the jackpot prize until it is won.
“The funds that would normally go to the jackpot will be distributed to the next lower prize tier at which there are winners.
“If the jackpot is won at an amount higher than €18.96 million, that amount will become the game’s new jackpot cap.”
Players are reminded to purchase their tickets before the 7:30 pm deadline ahead of the draw this evening at 8:00 pm on RTE One.
