Lottie Ryan on special 'connection with dad Gerry' 10 years on from tragic death

Gerry Ryan's daughters have spoke of the special connection they still feel with their dad 10 years on from his tragic death.

Lottie and Bonnie both paid tribute to their RTE broadcaster dad who died suddenly on April 30, 2010.

Bonnie, 27, said: "I genuinely think that as we get older there's still so much of him instilled in us. We're so like him.

"Even just being around our siblings we feel like he's there with us."

Lottie, 33, added: "He's still with us." And Bonnie replied: "Yeah, 100%."

The pair were speaking on Virgin Media One's Ireland AM on Monday morning.

Lottie, who on Sunday night made it through to the quarter-finals of RTE's Dancing with the Stars, also told how she feels her dad Gerry would be relishing his kids' "big moments" if he was still around today.

Lottie said: "I wouldn't call myself the most religious person but I think anyone who has lost someone close to them, particularly an immediate family member, you definitely feel a connection to a connection with them.

"And I definitely think for big moments in our lives like Bonnie getting engaged or me with Dancing with the Stars at the moment I think he would have absolutely lapped it up.

"He would've been on cloud nine so I would like to think he is [with us all of the time]."

As the 10th anniversary of Gerry's death approaches, Bonnie said her siblings feel lucky to have so many memories to look back on.

She said: "It's a strange one because I feel like I'm a totally different person now that I'm 10 years older.

"But also, I feel like we'd have the exact same relationship if he walked in right now.

"Which is a really nice way to feel. I think we're very lucky we have so much stuff to look back on."

The two sisters also told of their delight for mum Morah who has recently found love again in Don Mescall.

Lottie told the show: "We're so happy for her at the moment.

"I think that's all any kid wants for one of their parents, is to see them happy. I think we're all thrilled for her."
