Lottery winners Colin and Christine Weir's country pile snapped up for 'bargain' price of £2.3m

Lottery winners Colin and Christine Weir took a £1.2million hit on the sale of their mansion.

They had splashed out a fortune on renovations to the property, including building a garage for their fleet of cars and adding a brace of garden rooms.

The price agreed for the sale of seven-bedroom Frognal House in Troon, Ayrshire, a year ago has now emerged from public records.

The couple paid hotel tycoon Bill Costley £3.5million for the country pile six years ago when they moved from Largs.

They sold it for £2.3millon after they “amicably” split up in April last year, following 38 years of marriage.

Sprawling Frognal had been put on the market by estate agents Savills at offers over £2.25million.

The firm marketed the 110-year-old Edwardian mansion, set in 16 acres, as “lovingly maintained and remodelled to retain many original features”.

It was “surrounded by immaculate landscaped gardens in a glorious natural setting” boasted the sellers’ advert.

It was reported that Colin had signed over the mansion to Christine following their divorce. The buyer offered an extra £50,000 to seal the deal.

Colin died, aged 71, in December. He had moved to a villa in Belleisle Drive, Doonfoot, just outside Ayr.

It is not known where mum-of-two Christine, 65, found a new home.

The couple were the biggest UK lottery winners when they scooped more than £161million in the EuroMillions in 2011.

At the time, they were living in a modest three-bedroom detached house in Largs.

The couple pumped a fortune into their favourite football team, Partick Thistle, and the SNP – and also set up a charitable trust with their winnings.
