Care-worker Stacey Taylor thought her husband of less than a year was winding her up when he told her they had struck it rich.
Mum-of-two Stacey received a text from David saying ‘Come home, we’ve won a million on the lottery,’ while she was working a night shift at a care home.
But she didn’t believe him and worked on until 8am while her gobsmacked hubby locked the ticket in a safe.
Collecting their £1million cheque at the Cardiff hotel where they got hitched last march, Stacey laughed: “He sent me a picture of the winning ticket - I didn't know what it was to start with.
"But he's always playing pranks so I didn't believe it."
The nursing assistant, 37, called her mum and brother in the middle of the night to check the ticket code.

She said: “They both said it was a winning ticket but I still didn’t believe it.
“I asked one of my colleagues and she confirmed it too. She was jumping around ecstatic with excitement but I said, ‘Come on we’ve got work to do.”
The couple, from Bridgend, South Wales, immediately started drawing up a shopping list after the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker win on January 24.
They are planning a “massive upgrade” on their already booked holiday to Majorca and will buy two SUVs to drive them and their kids, aged 11 and nine, in style.
A move to a bigger house in the Welsh countryside is also on the cards, but both say they will continue working, at least part-time.
Stacey said: “I love looking after the residents – one of them was so happy for me they burst into tears.”
Delighted David added: "I still can't believe it. I've never had any luck - the most I've ever won is £100 on a scratchcard.
"As soon as I realised I had a winning ticket I put it in a safe.
"I sent Stacey a text but she thought it was unbelievable - it still is."
Stacey and David, exchanged their vows in a bay window at the hotel.
