Lots of players want to be part of Notts County 'project', says boss Neal Ardley

Neal Ardley says he has been inundated with players wanting to join Notts County, after admitting nobody wanted to “touch” the club last January.

The Magpies boss has made 11 signings since a transfer embargo was lifted two weeks ago, which came in the aftermath of  Alexander and Christoffer Reedtz completing their purchase of the club at the end of July.

Ardley says it a complete turnaround to January when the club were fighting to secure their EFL status and found signing players a difficult task as a result.

In the end, he did manage to sign the likes of Michael Doyle, Mitch Rose and Jim O’Brien,  with all three of them still on the payroll at Meadow Lane.

But he says now there is a buzz about Notts again in terms of being an attractive club to play for.

“Since we’ve come out of the embargo, we’ve probably had more players interested in us now than we did last January,” he said.

“Nobody wanted to touch us back then and it was really strange.

“That’s why credit goes to the boys who did come to try to salvage the situation.

“But generally nobody wanted to come. When I was at Wimbledon and we were bottom of the league, but we still had lots of players wanting to come.

“Now loads of people want to sign, and they see it as a project.

“They want to be part of it and that’s really positive.”
