Lothians coronavirus cases rise as five new positive Covid-19 tests are confirmed

There are now 40 coronavirus cases in the Lothians with five new positive tests in the last 24-hours.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed earlier on Friday that there are now 322 confirmed Covid-19 cases across the country, an increase of 56 since yesterday. There have been sixth deaths.

The latest Scottish Government figures reveal that there have now been 12 positive tests in Fife, 23 in Forth Valley and 31 in Tayside.

Sturgeon has warned people not to consider the self-isolation advice "optional" and says we all need to change the way we live.

She said: "My guidance to you is clear and crystal clear, you must not consider this vital health advice to be option.

"It is vital for your own protection, it is vital for the protection of your loved ones, it is vital for the protection of the NHS and it is vital to save lives.

"Please don't think this applies to other people and not you."

All  Edinburgh schools will close to staff and pupils  this afternoon (Friday) with classes not expected to resume before the summer break.
