Lothian Buses to operate 'critical services' only from Sunday amid coronavirus lockdown

Lothian Buses has announced there will be changes to bus schedules across the capital from Sunday (29 March) amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The bus operator already resorted to running a reduced service but will now offer a "critical service" only as of tomorrow, covering a "COVID-19 special network".

This means that "many services will be running less frequently", with passengers warned to plan ahead of their jouney.

However, Lothian Buses' say they will continue to provide "vital links" with lockdown in place across the country.

Hundreds of Lothian Buses staff have volunteered to to keep the network running for key workers throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians.

You find the updated timetable on Lothian Buses website here.

In a statement, Lothian Buses said: "Teams from across the Lothian family have been analysing customer travel patterns and feedback to ensure we can continue to operate vital links for key workers across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

"Over 500 colleagues from both driving and engineering teams have volunteered to keep the city moving during this time of uncertainty."

The country remains in lockdown with police given powers to disperse groups and people who break social distancing rules.

It is hoped the lockdown measures will cut social contact by at least 75% in an aim to curb the spread of the virus which has already killed 40 people in Scotland.
