Lothian Buses Fringe strike called off after drivers agree to new deal

Lothian Buses drivers have confirmed they have completely called off any planned strike action following new proposals from company bosses.

The Unite union confirmed on Friday that its 1700-strong membership had agreed to to the deal, following a long-standing dispute over bullying and harrassment.

Drivers initially planned for continuous strike action from the first day of the Fringe (August 2), which was threatening to cause potential travel chaos during the one of the city's busiest times of the year.

However more than three quarters of a 67 per cent turnout of Unite members voted to agree to the new proposals, which focus on improving workplace culture.

Unite regional industrial officer, Mr Lyn Turner, said: “Unite is pleased that our membership have agreed to the latest set of proposals which address the central issues at the heart of this long running dispute.

“It was only right that further assurances were given on fully addressing the bullying and hostile culture which has existed at Lothian Buses.”
