Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams fare increases come in this weekend – how much more you'll pay

Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams are set to increase their prices this weekend.

The cost of using public transport in the city will be more expensive from Sunday (February 2) with a host of bus and tram tickets changing price.

For Lothian Buses single fares will go up by 10p for adults and children, so they'll now cost £1.80 and 80p, and day tickets will increase by 50p for adults (to £4.50) and 20p for children (to £2.20). However, adults who use contactless will only see a 40p rise.

Family tickets, which currently cost £8.50, will increase by £1 and NetworkDay tickets, which are valid for unlimited travel on trams and Lothian Buses, will go up by £1 for adults (to £10) and 50p for children (to £5).

Ridacard passengers can expect to see an increase of around £1 weekly, and fares on airport tickets will remain the same.

Nigel Serafini, commercial director at Lothian, said previously that "98p of every £1 they receive in fares goes directly back into the running of our business and provision of services".

He added: "Across the last decade we have invested heavily in cleaner, greener buses for the benefit of all our customers and our capital city, lessening the impact on the environment, while continuing to develop and provide a comprehensive network of services across the Edinburgh city region."

They said that they will continue to invest in environmentally friendly vehicles this year, and are also renewing their Real Time Customer information system.

Edinburgh Tram journeys will also be more expensive from Sunday. Adult and child single tickets will go up 10p to £1.80 and 90p, and returns will now be £3.40 for adults and £1.80 for kids after increases of 20p.

For adults an airport single ticket will go up from £6 to £6.50 and open returns will go from £8.50 to £9. For children these tickets will increase 30p to £3.30 and £4.80.

Adult DAYtickets will increase by 50p and Child DAYrickets will go up £20. Other tickets including Ridacard one week, four week and annual will go up by as much as £36 along with increases of £1 to weekly tickets.

Annual tickets will go up £36 for adults, £12 for children and £36 for students for direct debit tickets, but for non-direct debit prices will actually drop £65 for adults, £24 for children and £50 for students.

Lee Harrison, Edinburgh Trams managing director, previously said that the decision to increase fares was a "necessary" one to make, adding: "These fare changes will help us to remain competitively priced while allowing us to make more changes for the benefit of the customer."
