Lost Prince album which 11 new tracks to be released five years after his death

A lost album from Prince will be released in July - five years after the star’s death.

The previously unheard album Welcome 2 America was recorded in 2010, and remained inside the Purple Rain singer’s infamous vault.

The record’s title track condemns celebrity culture and social media in a spoken word song, as well as lashing out at the music industry.

It features 11 original recordings and a cover of Soul Asylum’s Stand Up and B Strong.

The 12 tracks have never been released or heard as a full record, though several songs were performed live during his career.

Prince’s Estate shared a statement from the late star, which read: “The world is fraught with misin4mation.

“George Orwell’s vision of the future is here. We need 2 remain steadfast in faith in the trying times ahead.”

Welcome 2 America will be released on July 30th in various forms including a vinyl set in a luxe gold-foil package.

The album is described as “a powerful creative statement that documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice”.

The Estate said the album’s themes included “golden parachutes, the superficial nature of social media, reality TV-fuelled celebrity culture, and corporate monopolies in the music industry, ultimately concluding that America is the ‘Land of the free/home of the slave'.”

Other track titles include Running Game (Son of a Slave Master), 1010 (Rin Tin Tin), Born 2 Die and One Day We Will All B Free.

In 2010, the year Welcome 2 America was recorded, Prince gave away 2.5million copies of his album 20TEN with the Daily Mirror.

Prince told the Mirror at the time he no longer trusted record labels to distribute his album, and did not agree with giving his music to web giants like iTunes.

The album was recorded at his home Paisley Park, where he died in April 2016 from an accidental fentanyl overdose, aged 57.

This week it was revealed he once requested $10,000 worth of carnations specifically shipped in from Holland on his rider.
