Lost Edinburgh time capsule found hidden in house by surprised kitchen fitter

A stunned kitchen fitter uncovered a secret time capsule hidden inside a house in Edinburgh during essential renovation works.

Craig Harrigan found a bottle of Glenkinchie whisky and a brilliant written message while pulling up the floorboards in the kitchen of a property he was working on.

The message read: "Jack and May lived here - three kids and a dug. Kitchen done up during April and May 2001..

"All the best, have a drink on us!"

The 35-year-old told the Daily Record that the secret message was written by his customer's dad, who had moved after selling the house to his daughter.

He said: "We were stripping out the old kitchen last Friday morning.

"When stripping it, the apprentice tried to pull the bottle up and realised it was stuck. Then that’s when we noticed the message.

"So I called the customer in to show her and she said it was her mum and dad's old house that she recently bought and the note was written by her dad. She was one of the three kids.

"So we cut the section of floor out and gave her it to keep along with the bottle."

Craig also shared the find on Tik Tok, with his video pulling up thousands of likes from intrigued viewers – a number of whom remarked on how much more the whisky might be worth after 20 years untouched under the floorboards.
