'Lost control' - Romain Saiss takes aim at referee Craig Pawson after Wolves' defeat to Liverpool

Wolves defender Romain Saiss has launched a stinging attack on referee Craig Pawson claiming he feels the official lost control of his side’s game with Liverpool.

A strike from Diogo Jota against his former club was enough to hand Jurgen Klopp’s side a 1-0 win at Molineux on Monday night.

But Saiss believes his side should have been awarded a first half penalty when Nelson Semedo was taken down by Alisson Becker inside the box.

The Liverpool goalkeeper dropped a cross from Adama Traore before appearing to charge into Semedo as he looked to turn the ball home.

But Pawson, after a small period of hesitation, told the former Barcelona man to get up, while it is believed that the incident was not reviewed by VAR.

"It was clearly a penalty," Saiss said of the incident. "I think the referee lost a bit the control of the game in the second half but we have to do more to score goals."

However, the game was overshadowed by an incident involving Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio and his team-mate Conor Coady in the closing stages.

Patricio was stretched following an accidental knee to the head from his captain as they tried to prevent Mohamed Salah from doubling Liverpool’s lead.

After a lengthy stoppage, Wolves were allowed to use a fourth substitute under the 'concussion law' with John Ruddy coming on in place of his stricken colleague.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed the goalkeeper was conscious and doing well, and Saiss admitted it was tough for him and his team-mates to continue with the game afterwards.

He said: "Yes [it was hard] because of what happened to Raul [Jimenez, suffered a head injury earlier this season] but fortunately Rui [Patricio] was awake on the pitch and in the dressing room.

"We are really confident because he looks not worse than Raul, but of course it's not good to have this kind of injury in your team again. I saw him after with the doctor and he is awake which is most important to us.

"We kept pushing after the injury of Rui, we tried to push to score the goal to make the draw but unfortunately we didn't achieve it. I think we did pretty well today."
