Lost beagle fighting for his life after being hit by car in West Lothian

A missing dog which sparked a massive search in West Lothian has been found but he has been badly injured by a car.

Bailey's owners face an agonising wait as he fights for his life at the Dick Vet centre in Edinburgh, with the next few hours critical for his survival.

The one-year-old dog bolted while out for a walk at the Oakbank Industrial Estate near Livingston on Thursday.

Owner Emma Lundy and her family have been desperately searching for him, with reports he was seen near the A71.

He was found by a passer-by on Friday and returned to his owners. The beagle's front paw was mangled and he has a leak on his lung.

Emma told Edinburgh Live: "Someone said they saw him get hit by a car. A woman picked him up and drove him to the vets.

"He was alert but he was in a lot of pain. He was screaming. His paw was crushed and there's concern about his breathing."

The next few hours are crucial as Bailey's condition could change at any moment.

Locals turned out in droves to help search for Bailey as his owners scoured the area around the industrial estate.

Emma said: "We've been absolutely overwhelmed by the support. People were showing up with food and clothing for us."
