'Lost all credibility' - Gary Neville sends message to FSG and Premier League after European Super League fallout

Football in England is transitioning as talk of an independent regulator being brought in hots up after the debacle of the European Super League.

Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville was vocal from the start about the severe problems the ESL would bring to football.

With the Big Six in the Premier League all involved in the scheming behind the failed launch of the ESL, the former England international believes the Big Six no longer hold any credibility.

Football has faced many issues over the last few years with the demise of Bury FC, the failure of the ESL breakaway and the Covid pandemic - it is thought an independent regulator would bring parity.

Athletic journalist Adam Crafton said in a tweet: “Interesting that Parish and Purslow making these arguments, underlining once again that there is nobody in the Big Six group who possess the clout/charisma to address country + win hearts/minds.”

Liverpool were amongst the six teams from the Premier League who wanted to breakaway and join the ESL and the Reds’ owners came in for plenty of criticism since the plan was made public.

Sky Sports pundit Neville replied to the tweet saying: “The top six can’t speak out as they have lost all credibility on football governance issues.

“Palace and Villa should be desperate for a regulator to stop “The Top Six” scheming behind their backs and doing untold and irreparable damage.”

With talk of the regulator being the Government, football fans are not warming to that idea and Neville added how that ‘scaremongering’ shouldn’t be listened to.

“The regulator will not be controlled by the Government and the government will not be running football,” said Neville.

“Don’t allow the PR and scaremongering from the Premier League clubs to embed itself.”
