Lorry strikes Cathcart bridge causing road and rail chaos

Drivers and rail passengers have been experiencing disruption in the southside tonight after a lorry struck a bridge in Cathcart.

The vehicle hit the railway bridge in Old Castle Road around 4.30pm (Wednesday) and was trapped.

ScotRail were unable to run trains on the line as a result but, after an inspection by Network Rail, services are returning to normal.

A ScotRail statement reads: "Our colleagues have examined the bridge and services can now run as scheduled. We’re working hard to get services back on schedule. Sorry for any inconvenience caused this evening."

Ticket acceptance with First Bus remains in place until 6pm.
