Lorry spotted 'driving wrong way' down treacherous A9 as Scots road cops charge man

A lorry was reportedly spotted "driving the wrong way" down one of Scotland's most treacherous roads before a man was traced and charged by road cops.

Police received "multiple 999 calls" regarding the vehicle travelling south on the northbound lanes of the dual carriageway section of the A9 at Dalnaspidal.

The alarm was raised at around 4.45pm on Friday January 22 before officers rushed to the scene and traced the vehicle in question.

A 56-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving.

Officers say the man will be reported to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter, and highlight their efforts to prevent a serious incident from occurring.

"This incident reinforces the importance of remaining vigilant whilst on the road.

"The good observations of the northbound users of this stretch of road, and actions of others driving on the road at the time, have prevented a serious collision which could have had a tragic outcome."
