Lorry spills hundreds of McVitie's ginger nuts across road

Drivers in Derbyshire had their journeys delayed on Monday after a lorry shed its cargo of biscuits across the carriageway. Dozens of boxes of McVitie's ginger nuts and bourbons fell from the vehicle on Ilkeston Road in Sandacre at around 5pm.

Police officers quipped they were attempting to "digest" the incident, reports DerbyshireLive. Three recovery vehicles arrived to help clear up the mess just after 8pm.

Posting on Twitter, a spokesperson for Erewash Response wrote: "Please bare [sic] with us this evening whilst we try and ‘digest’ this issue. A lorry load of McVities finest have decided to abandon ship causing a slight obstruction!"

Traffic-monitoring service Inrix reported that the incident affected the road in both directions between Stanton Gate and Starch Lane. It is unclear why the biscuits fell from the lorry.
