A lorry has rammed through traffic lights into a railing in Edinburgh 's Gorgie Road after colliding with a bus.

Witness Danny Fuller said the collision was like a scene from "crash bandicoot" as the "van rammed up on the metal railings".

He added: "The bus driver was slumped over the steering wheel and was being treated by ambulance staff.

"It could have been worse if pedestrians were on the road at the time."

Police and ambulance crews remain at the scene. A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed: "Officers are in attendance and one lane is closed."

Lothain Buses has confirmed no services are able to serve Gorgie Road city bound and are instead diverted via Chesser Avenue, Slateford Road, Robertson Avenue until further notice.

A spokesperson for the bus company said: “We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an incident today on Gorgie Road and we are fully assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries.”
