Dramatic scenes as lorry smashes into gantry and seals road for 'hours'
A major road was closed after a lorry crashed into a gantry blocking the carriageway.
Officers were called at 6.39am this morning to reports of a collision on the A562 Speke Road in Widnes.
Police attended the scene and found a HGV had collided with a gantry near to Hale Road slip road.

Nursery worker stabbed best friend 18 times but motive is still a mystery

A nursery worker who tried to stab a young couple to death for no apparent reason knows why she did it, a top judge said.
Lauren Walsh knifed Kelsey Gielinck 18 times after accusing her best friend and colleague of killing her nan - who is still alive.
When the "frenzied" assault was interrupted by the young mum's boyfriend, Wesley Pemberton, Walsh stabbed him three times.
Prosecutors said the motive for the "vicious" attack, at the victims' home in Southgate Road, Old Swan, remains a mystery.
Met Office predicts Liverpool will be battered by heavy rain

It's set to be a weekend of heavy rain and strong winds in Liverpool.
Last week, Storm Arwen wreaked havoc across much of the UK, bringing strong winds, sleet and snow.
Three people were killed when trees were blown over by strong winds.
Gusts of almost 100mph also caused transport disruption, power cuts and damage to buildings, while heavy snow led to lorries getting stuck and ploughs being used in a number of areas.
