Lorry smashes into front of house

Fire crews have sealed off a residential street after a lorry smashed into the front of a house.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to Meadow Lane in Ainsdale at 9.36am on Saturday, and arrived seven minutes later.

On arrival they found a lorry had ploughed head on through a garden wall onto a driveway and was leaning against the front window of the semi-detached house.

Two people were found trapped inside the vehicle.

One of the them was helped from the lorry by firefighters while a second was checked over by ambulance crews.

Police also attended the incident and it has now been handed over to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesperson from the fire service said: "One person was thought to have had head injuries and the other person neck and arm injuries.

"They were checked at the scene by paramedics. There are not thought to be any other injuries."

The ECHO understands no one was inside the property, known as Springbrook Children’s Home, at the time of the crash. The home is currently closed due to coronavirus.

A cordon was put in place around the house which was shored up by the search and rescue team so the interior could be checked over by fire crews.

A structural engineer is currently at the scene assessing the safety of the building.

It is not yet known how the incident occurred and the lorry has been left in place as investigations continue.
