Lorry smashes into broken down car on one of Wales' busiest roads

This is the mangled wreck left when a lorry smashed into a broken down car on one of Wales' busiest roads.

The car's driver had an incredibly lucky escape after his car was totally destroyed by the crash on the A55. North Wales Police have released a shocking image showing the extent of the damage to a vehicle following a crash near Bangor on Tuesday.

The car's driver managed to walk away from the crash unhurt.

A police spokesman said: "The driver of this Ford Focus had an extremely lucky escape earlier today following a collision involving a HGV on the A55 on the outskirts of Bangor.

"The Focus had broken down and was awaiting recovery in a lay-by when it was struck by a HGV which was carrying a wide load. Miraculously the driver of the car was uninjured and thankfully did not need hospital treatment. An investigation is now underway."

Emergency services were called to the crash near Llandygai at around 12.15pm, North Wales Live reports.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said they sent an ambulance to the scene of the crash, but did not need to take anybody to hospital.

One lane of the A55 was shut while the incident was dealt with.
