Lorry overturns on M74 at Raith Interchange leaving lanes shut for hours overnight

Two lanes of the M74 motorway remain closed this morning after a lorry overturned in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene near the Raith Interchange at around 2.30am.

Police say the driver has been taken to hospital 'as a precaution'.

As of 7.13am this morning, two northbound lanes remain closed between Junctions 4 and 5 at Maryville, causing traffic tailbacks.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.30am on Friday, 12 March, officers were called to the M74 near the Raith Interchange following a report of a lorry overturning.

"The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and recovery remains ongoing."

Traffic Scotland Tweeted at 7.13am: "Lanes 1 and 2 remain closed on the #M74 N/B between J5-4 at Maryville due to an RTC

"Traffic slowing back from J6."
