Lorry on Portbury Hundred blocks traffic between Portishead and M5

Traffic on a busy route in and out of Portishead had to be diverted – after a lorry got stuck across the carriageway.

Police were called to the Portbury Hundred at just before 2pm today (December 29) to reports a HGV was blocking the road between the M5 roundabout and Portishead.

It is not known how the lorry got into the predicament.

But some have suggested he may have been trying to turn around after perhaps missing his turning to Portbury Dock.

Drivers were diverted along the Sheepway while police dealt with the incident.

Avon and Somerset Police control room issued a tweet asking people to avoid the area.

The lorry was moved after a short while after a fellow HGV driver stepped in to help

In their tweet, the Avon and Somerset Police control room said: “Thanks to another HGV driver, the stuck HGV has been removed and traffic is now flowing freely between M5 and J19 Portishead.”
