Lorry jackknifes across A720 Edinburgh City Bypass as cops race to scene

A section of the busy Edinburgh City Bypass has been closed by police after a lorry jackknifed across the entire carriageway.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A720 between Straiton and Lasswade at around 9.40am on Saturday.

The eastbound carriageway remains closed as work to recover the stricken flatbed lorry continues.

Motorists are being warned to expect delays with traffic quickly building in the area.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: “The A720 is closed eastbound between Straiton and Lasswade due to a jackknifed lorry.

“Police and TRISS are in attendance with traffic being taken off at Lasswade junction. Travel time of approx 15 minutes.”

It is not known if anyone has been injured.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 9.40am on Saturday, 27 March, we received a report of a lorry jackknifed and blocking both lanes eastbound on the A720 between Gilmerton and Straiton.

“Local diversions are in place and uplift of the vehicle has been arranged.”
